Project name: "Development of the infrastructure for the collection of public space by type"
Project number: Klima.6.01.20-0014
Project start and end: 23.03.2021 – 31.01.2022
Funder: Center for Environmental Investments 54%, Keila City Government 46%
The project was supported from the first round of applications from 30.07.2020 to 01.10.2020.
As a result of the project, we installed smart, cost-saving and self-pressing trash cans in public urban space. Trash cans are equipped with solar panels. Energy is used by the bin to operate the internal press, to monitor the filling, to inform the operator and to thank the users.
In the user portal, the location (GPS) of each trash can is visible to the custodian of the trash containers, as well as the level of occupancy. The user sets the appropriate notifications for himself: 80% occupancy warning, 100% full-empty. The portal records the entire history of the trash can, filling rate, frequency of emptying, performed maintenance, etc.
Installed smart containers support the operation of a complete collection system in the local government (application of the principles of separate collection in public areas), because they enable sorting of garbage in parks, playgrounds, health trails, etc. The areas where trash cans with sorting options were installed are in public use and owned by the city of Keila.
In accordance with the signed procurement contract, 39 smart containers were purchased and installed in the city of Keila for different types of waste collection, 20 of which were packaging containers.
